Dr. Farid Novin was born in Iran, and began his post-secondary studies at the National University of Iran, obtaining a BA in Economics in 1971. He continued his studies at the Institute of Social Studies in Hague, Netherlands, then at Manchester University, completing his Masters in Economics in 1978. Moving to Canada in the early 1980s, Farid attended Queen's University to complete his PhD in 1983, receiving several fellowships and awards in the process. He spent the next few years teaching at the university level before beginning his career with the Bank of Canada. Beginning as an Energy Specialist in 1984, Farid has worked in various capacities throughout his career at the Bank. On 1999, he was promoted to Senior Representative for Economics for the BC/Yukon Regional Office. This role has given Farid the opportunity to travel throughout the province and meet with numerous contacts in business, government, and academia. He has given presentations and lectures on subjects relating to Economics over the past few years, and serves as referee for several academic journals.
